School districts receive 2023-24 report cards

DARKE COUNTY — This story has been updated to reflect the 2023-24 report card information. The previous story contained the information from the 2022-23 report card. The Daily Advocate/The Early Bird apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The 2023-24 report cards for local schools are in and a couple of schools in the county have earned an overall five stars. The schools are rated on Achievement, Gap Closing, Early Literacy, Progress, and Graduation Rate.

Schools and districts receive points for each componenet based on their level of performance. The higher the performance, the more points earned. The overall rating represents the outcomes of all components to determine whether a district or school meets state standards by achieving an overall rating of at least three stars. All Darke County schools met the standard by achieving at least three stars.

The Achievement Component represents whether student performance on state tests met established thresholds and how well students performed on tests overall.

The Progress Component measures the overall value-added progress measure. Value-added refers to the statistical analysis used to measure the impact of districts, schools and teachers on the academic growth (or progress rates) of groups of students from year to year. Academic growth is assessed by comparing current achievement results with prior achievements results on state tests.

The Early Literacy Component measures reading improvement and proficiency for students in kindergarten through third grade.

The Gap Closing Component measures Gifted Performance, English Language Proficiency, Graduation Goals, English Language Arts, Math Achievement by Student Group, and English Langue Arts, Math Progress (Growth) by Student Group.

Schools earning five stars are Versailles and Tri-Village.

Versailles had a total score of 4.75. Not only did they receive five stars overall, but the district also received five stars for Achievement, Gap Closing, Progress and Graduation Rate. The district received four stars for Early Literacy.

Tri-Village had a total score of 4.5. They had five-star ratings in Achievement, Early Literacy, Progress and Graduation Rate. Their lone four-star rating came in Gap Closing.

The four-star schools in Darke County included Ansonia, Arcanum-Butler, Franklin Monroe and Mississinawa Valley.

Ansonia earned the highest score total of the four-star schools in the county with 3.678. The district had two five-star ratings with five stars for Early Literacy and Graduation Rate. They received four stars for Achievement and Gap Closing. Ansonia had a three-star ratings for Progress.

Arcanum-Butler had a total score of 3.607. The district had a five-star rating for Graduation Rate. They received four stars for Achievement and Early Literacy and three stars for Gap Closing and Progress.

Franklin Monroe followed close behind in total score with 3.606. Franklin Monroe scored five stars for Gap Closing and Graduation Rate, four stars for Achievement and Early Literacy and two stars for Progress.

Mississinawa Valley had a total score of 3.321. The district had four stars for components including Achievement, Gap Closing, Early Literacy and Graduation Rate. They received three stars for Progress.

Bradford earned three stars overall with a score of 2.499. The district had five stars for Graduation Rate, three stars for Achievement and Early Literacy, and two stars for Gap Closing and Progress.

Greenville had three stars overall with a score of 2.394. The school scored three stars in Achievement and Progress and two stars in Gap Closing, Early Literacy and Graduation Rate.
