GREENVILLE — Darke County awarded $750,000 in grant money. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs, and Larry Holmes were present.

Commissioner Holmes advised that around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, the commissioners received a message the governor had announced the 2024 CDBG competitive awards in a press release. The Neighborhood Revitalization Grant Project that the county submitted for Arcanum’s High Street project was one of 10 awardees in the amount of $750,000.

“It was really pleasent news to receive,” Holmes said.

This grant is to assist the Village of Arcanum with five neighborhood revitalization activities. The county will reconstruct South High Street, as well as replace the storm sewer lines, waterlines, and sidewalks along the road. Two parking lots will also be improved.

“This project will benefit 2,160 people,” Holmes said.

Commissioner Combs would also like to inform people that a free Community Shred Day will take place on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Darke County Fairgrounds located at 800 Sweitzer St., Greenville.

“There is a limit of eight banker boxes per name and/or address to allow all to participate,” Combs said.

They ask that there be no three-ring binders, binder clips, CD’s, Floppy Disks, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, photos or x-rays, and nothing in trash bags. For a full list of allowed items or for more information visit www.co.darke.oh.us/solidwaste/ShredDay.html or call 937-547-0827.

Combs also advised the public that the Darke County Residential Household Hazardous Waste Day will be Oct. 5 also at the Darke County Fairgrounds. Those with last names that start with the letters A – M are from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., and those with the letters N – Z are to report between 10 a.m. until noon.

This event is open to Darke County residents only, and they ask for no business, school, agricultural, or industrial waste. A list of approved items can be found at www.co.darke.oh.us/solidwaste. For questions, call 937-547-0827. Due to large volumes of paint, there will be a $2 per paint can charge, whether full or empty, no matter the size. There will also be a $1 charge for one to five aerosol cans, no matter the contents. No 55-gallon drums will be accepted either.

All commissioners declared Sept. 17 through Sept. 23 as Constitution Week in Darke County. It marks the 237 year anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention. It is asked the citizens of Darke County reaffirm the ideals of the framers of the constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained.

The commissioners meet every Tuesday and Thursday for a public Regular Session starting at 1:30 p.m. in the Administration Building: 520 S Broadway, Greenville. All are welcome to attend.
