Three golfers advance to districts after rainy round at Turtle Creek

GREENVILLE — The Division III Boys Golf Southwest Sectional Tournament took place at Turtle Creek Golf Course on Sept. 24. Through the wet conditions, three golfers from the county moved on to compete at districts as individuals.

Franklin Monroe junior Leo Kinnison took fourth overall with a score of 79 and will head to districts. Tri-Village senior Trey Homan was tied for seventh with a score of 82 and will head to districts. Ansonia junior Byron Young finished with an 84, the tenth best score, and qualified for districts.

For the team results, Tri-Village took fifth and was three strokes away from tying fourth place Newton for a chance at going to districts as a team. They shot a 360 as a team. Homan led the team with his 82. Freshman Brecken Gray shot an 88, freshman Kohen Burns shot a 93, senior Cameron Kimmel shot a 97 and senior Ryder Brummett shot a 105.

Franklin Monroe took seventh with a score of 376. Kinnison led with the 79. Senior Chase Stebbins shot a 92, junior Brandt Filbrun shot a 94, senior Trevor Swiger shot a 111 and sophomore Braden Gilbert shot a 113.

Bradford took eighth place with a team score of 384. Junior Greg Chowning led the team with a 90. Senior Treyl Manuel shot a 92, junior Gage Shafer shot a 98, junior Ryan Hocker shot a 104 and senior Landon Helman shot a 115.

Ansonia took ninth place with a score of 386. Young led with his 84. Freshman Ryder Sanders shot a 90, senior Darby Gilland shot a 103, junior Noah Heck shot a 109 and freshman Luke Hahn shot a 181.

Mississinawa Valley finished 12th with a score of 430. Sophomore Jaxin Beanblossom led the team with an 89. Senior Braden Wisner had a 103, freshman Cole McGlothlin had a 114, sophomore Conner Hardy had a 124 and sophomore Carson Hamilton had a 138.

The District Tournament will take place on Sept. 30 at PipeStone Golf Club.
