Murder suspect arrested in Greenville

GREENVILLE — On Sept. 26, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers from the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of Martin Street in reference to the report of a female being shot. Greenville Township Rescue, City of Greenville Fire Department, and CareFlight from Miami Valley Hospital were also dispatched.

Upon officers arrival, it was discovered the victim, Brianne Otley, 34, of Greenville, had suffered a gun shot wound. The suspect, Zachery Gilbert, 25, of Greenville, fled the area prior to officer arrival.

Assistance from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol was requested and both agencies quickly responded to assist. A perimeter was established near the area of the shooting in order to locate Gilbert.

At 9:17 p.m., while attempting life saving measures, the victim, Brianne Otley, was pronounced deceased. At 10:27 p.m., the suspect, Zachery Gilbert, was located several blocks north of where the shooting occurred. Gilbert is being held on the preliminary charge of murder. Further investigation is taking place at this time and this case will be reviewed by the Darke County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Greenville Police Department wishes to extend condolences to the family of the victim and a sincere thank you to all agencies involved assisting with the investigation.
