Runners navigate wet course at Newton XC Invitational

PLEASANT HILL — Four Darke County High School cross country teams competed at the Newton XC Invitational at the Indian Hills 4H Camp on Sept. 28.

Through the wet conditions on a tough course, the Ansonia boys team finished as runner-ups. Arcanum took fourth and Bradford finished seventh.

For Ansonia, sophomore Bennett Lehman took first place overall with a time of 16:21.9. Senior Ethan Sparks took fifth with a time of 18:36.9 and junior Luken Longenecker took tenth with a 19:04.0. For Arcanum, junior Malachi Wright took ninth with a time of 19:03.8. Junior Micah Arbogast took 20th with a time of 19:45.6 and junior Clark Lemons took 23rd with a 19:55.0. For Bradford, freshman Lucas Nicholson took 44th with a time of 21:29.1. Freshman Eli Hoffman took 47th with a 21:56.8 and sophomore Kyree Roberts took 48th with a 21:58.3. For Tri-Village, junior Chris Brinley took 28th with a time of 20:10.1. Sophomore Carson Dyson took 41st with a 21:18.3 and junior Brady Beisner took 50th with a 22:03.8.

For the girls race, Arcanum took fourth as a team and Ansonia took sixth as a team.

For Arcanum, freshman Ella Warren took ninth with a time of 23:47.3. Freshman Brynn Byers took 14th with a time of 24:28.0 and freshman Kennedy Hayes took 19th with a 24:43.4. For Ansonia, sophomore Alexa Kreiner took tenth with a time of 23:49.4. Junior Olivia Creager took 18th with a 24:38.1 and junior Bella Obringer took 38th with a 31:03.9. For Bradford, senior Emma Lavey took 11th with a time of 23:50.4. Sophomore Natalie Wood took 15th with a time of 24:30.7 and sophomore Savannah Beachler took 23rd with a 25:05.7. For Tri-Village, sophomore Zilah Strayer took 36th with a time of 29:59.2 and junior Grace Bergman took 43rd with a 32:13.1.

Teams will have one more week before the WOAC Championships take place on Oct. 12. The races will take place at Tri-Village High School.
