BPL announces October events

BRADFORD — October is upon us and fall activities have started at Bradford Public Library. Here is what they have planned for the month.

The Bradford Public Library will have special hours the week of the Pumpkin Show, Oct. 7-12. They will be closed Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Hours on Thursday are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

STEAM for Homeschoolers returns Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10:15-11:30 a.m. STEAM classes are suitable for students in grades 1-8. These free, hands-on classes will spark your student’s love for science, technology, engineering, art and math. Registrations are not required to attend.

Just Glue It adult craft class will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 6:30-8 p.m. They will be crafting two pumpkins from old books. This month’s class is free to attend. Space is limited to 24 participants and registration is required. These popular classes fill up quickly so don’t delay calling.

Adult BINGO will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Always free to play and everyone goes home a winner. Participants may bring along a prize to share if they wish, valued at $5 or under. No registration needed.

The Darke County Health Department will be holding a walk-in Flu Shot Clinic On Monday, October 21 from 3:30-5:30. Please bring your insurance card if you are insured. No insurance? Cost is just $20 per shot. Shots are available first come, first served for anyone 6 months old and up.

Tina McGillvary from the Darke County OSU Extension Office will be holding a Pumpkin Nutrition Class at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Come learn some nutritional information and enjoy a cooking demonstration. Pumpkins are good for so much more than fall decorations! Registrations by Friday, Oct. 18 are required to attend so supplies can be arranged.

Teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to join them for a special crafting night Oct. 24 from 6-7 p.m. They will be bleaching shirts for the fall season. BPL will provide the bleach and the stencils. Participants will need to bring a dark colored T-shirt or sweatshirt made of mostly cotton. Please wash and dry your shirt before coming. This class is free. Sign-ups are appreciated.

The Stillwater Stargazers will be joining them on Oct. 28 from 8-10 p.m. to check out the night sky. They will have several telescopes on hand that night for your viewing pleasure. This free event will be held in the Y-Yard Park, across the street from the library. Registrations are not required. Fall is the perfect time to go stargazing, as the sun sets early and the skies are clearer.

Senior Citizens will be playing bid euchre every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Come join this fun loving group for some friendly competition and lively conversation.

They are still seeking vendors for their Handmade Holiday Craft Show to be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All items sold must be handmade, no exceptions. Space is free for this event and is limited to 20 vendors. Call to sign up.
