Ansonia and Versailles boys cross country win conference titles; cross country roundup

NEW MADISON — The WOAC Cross Country Championships took place at Tri-Village on Oct. 12. Teams competed for conference glory before they move on to the postseason races.

The Ansonia High School boys team took first place as a team finishing three points ahead of Newton to win the championship. Arcanum took fourth place with Franklin Monroe, Tri-Village and Bradford taking sixth through eighth place in that order.

Ansonia sophomore Bennett Lehman took first place overall with a time of 15:52.8 and was named the WOAC Boys Runner of the Year. Senior Ethan Sparks took fourth place with a time of 17:46.0 and junior Luken Longenecker took 13th with a time of 18:19.9. For Arcanum, junior Micah Arbogast took tenth with a time of 18:08.9. Junior Malachi Wright took 12th with a time of 18:19.6 and junior Will Beisner took 22nd with an 18:59.2. For Franklin Monroe, senior Sam Haney took 15th with a time of 18:21.0. Freshman Charlie Stull took 20th with an 18:50.0 and sophomore Owen Hosler took 36th with a 19:53.7. For Tri-Village, junior Chris Brinley took 33rd with a time of 19:47.1. Sophomore Carson Dyson took 40th with a time of 20:13.1 and junior Brady Beisner took 43rd with a 20:19.7. For Bradford, freshman Eli Hoffman took 46th with a time of 20:31.8. Freshman Lucas Nicholson took 54th with a 21:04.1 and sophomore Kyree Roberts took 59th with a 22:07.1. For Mississinawa Valley, senior Daniel Hartzell took 26th with a 19:10.4.

On the girls side, Mississinawa Valley took second place as a team. Franklin Monroe took third, Arcanum took fourth and Ansonia took fifth place.

For the Lady Blackhawks, senior Taylee Woodbury took second with a time of 21:18.7. Freshman Tenlee Woodbury took 13th with a time of 22:57.6 and senior Harley Hanes took 16th with a 23:31.2. For Franklin Monroe, freshman Stella Fugate took seventh with a time of 22:11.5. Sophomore Hannah Wolfe took 12th with a 22:55.2 and sophomore Mia Brookey took 17th with a 23:34.8. For Arcanum, freshman Ella Warren took eighth with a time of 22:22.1. Freshman Brynn Byers took 14th with a time of 23:02.0 and freshman Kennedy Hayes took 19th with a time of 23:46.6. For Ansonia, Olivia Creager took ninth with a time of 22:24.0. Sophomore Alexa Kreiner took 20th with a time of 23:51.6 and junior Bella Obringer took 42nd with a time of 29:16.8. For Bradford, senior Emma Lavey took fifth with a time of 22:02.3. Sophomore Savannah Beachler took 21st with a time of 24:15.8 and sophomore Natalie Wood took 28th with a time of 24:53.8. For Tri-Village, sophomore Zilah Strayer took 35th with a time of 26:16.4 and junior Grace Bergman took 41st with a time of 28:54.9.

Around the county:

The Greenville cross country teams competed in the MVL Cross Country Championships at Piqua on Oct. 12. The boys team took fifth and the girls team took fourth. For the boys, junior Owen Marker took 15th with a time of 17:07.3 while sophomore Karr Hiestand took 23rd with a 17:18.3 and senior Trey Rammel took 40th with a 18:06.5. For the girls, freshman Meredith Hunt took eighth with a time of 21:18.7. Junior Ava Glass took 12th with a 21:55.1 and sophomore Clair Rammel took 24th with a 22:46.2.

In the MAC Cross Country Championships at Coldwater, the Versailles boys team took first place to be MAC champions. Jackson Spitzer took first place overall with a time of 15:48.38 and was named MAC Boys Runner of the Year. Cameron Magoto took fourth with a time of 16:34.59, Anthony Spitzer took sixth with a 16:49.87, Marcus Briscoe took seventh with a 16:50.22 and Zachary Rahm took eighth with a 16:50.94. The girls team finished as runner ups. Ava Rismiller took fifth with a time of 20:01.19. Gabrielle Spitzer took seventh with a 20:10.39 and Lillian Selhorst took 11th with a 20:23.67.

All of the teams will be at Cedarville for the OHSAA Southwest Cross Country District Tournament on Oct. 19 for their respective division race.
