DAYTON — The Green Wave boys soccer team ended their season with an 8-0 loss at number one seed Archbishop Carroll High School on Oct. 15 in the Division III Boys Soccer Southwest Sectional Tournament.

The boys came out and showed the improvements they’ve made during the season while playing loose and having some fun to end their season.

Head coach Brad Feldner said while it doesn’t show in their record, the team improved as the season went on. As a program, they had one of their better seasons in recent years.

“It doesn’t represent in the win/loss category, but the team came together through the season and improved. When you look at goal differential, we had the best goal differential since 2020. There is improvement,” Feldner said.

Per OHSAA rules, soccer matches in the postseason end at halftime or end after a team extends their lead to eight goals in the second half. For Greenville, they made the most of their time at Carroll.

Carroll got out to a fast start and didn’t let Greenville back into the game to seal the win. For the Green Wave, it was still a great chance for players to get playing experience against a great team and share one last game with their teammates.

The team graduates eight seniors on the team. Players like Juan Gutierrez, Gavin Hayes, Kevin Nguyen and Ryan Burrowes all played multiple seasons for the program. Seniors Liam Jasenski, Layne Hocker, Adam Edwards and Owen McGreevey all joined the team their senior year to help give the program more numbers.

All of them contributed to getting the program back on track. In his first year in goal, Edwards led the MVL in saves with 192.

“It’s been a really good group. Those that have been here stuck it out. Those that have stepped up have contributed to taking that goal differential down,” Feldner said.
