Lehman, Spitzer District champions and more qualify for regionals

CEDARVILLE — The Darke County boys and girls cross country teams competed in the OHSAA Southwest Cross Country District Tournament on Oct. 19 at Cedarville.

Versailles Jackson Spitzer took first place in the Division II boys race to be a district champion with a time of 15:46.56. Ansonia Bennett Lehman also took first place to be a district champion in the Division III boys race.

As a team, the Versailles boys team qualified for regionals as a team in Division II. In Division III, the Versailles girls team qualified as a team for regionals.

Also qualifying for regionals, Mississinawa Valley Taylee Woodbury took 12th with a time of 20:29.66 in Division III. Qualifying for the Division III boys race, Ansonia Ethan Sparks took 20th with a time of 17:19.47.

For the Division I results, the Greenville boys team finished in 15th place and the Greenville girls team finished in 11th place. For the boys, Owen Marker was close to qualifying with a 33rd place finish with a time of 16:55.98. For the girls, Meredith Hunt was the highest placing finisher at 57th with a time of 22:28.56.

In Division II, Versailles Tony Moorman and Anthony Spitzer took ninth and tenth with times of 16:43.03 and 16:44.49 respectively.

For the boys in Division III, Ansonia took eighth place as a team. Arcanum finished in 12th, Franklin Monroe finished in 18th and Bradford finished in 23rd. For Arcanum, Micah Arbogast took 45th with a time of 17:59.77 and Clark Lemons took 53rd with a time of 18:07.12. For Franklin Monroe, Sam Haney took 72nd with a time of 18:17.65. For Bradford, Eli Hoffman took 115th with a time of 19:55.54. For Mississinawa Valley, Daniel Hartzell took 79th with a time of 18:23.91. For Tri-Village, Chris Brinley took 110th with a time of 19:46.45 and Carson Dyson took 113rd with a time of 19:52.58.

For the rest of the team standings in Division III for the girls, Mississinawa Valley finished in 11th. Arcanum took 15th, Franklin Monroe took 18th and Ansonia took 20th. For Versailles, Ava Rismiller took 14th, Lillian Selhorst took 15th and Gabrielle Spitzer took 16th with times of 20:38.01, 20:38.16 and 20:39.25. For Mississinawa Valley, Syenna Purdin finished 61st with a time of 22:37.92. For Arcanum, Ella Warren took 42nd with a time of 21:53. For Franklin Monroe, Stella Fugate took 66th with a time of 22:53.28 and Hannah Wolfe took 68th with a time of 22:54.46. For Ansonia, Olivia Creager took 79th with a time of 23:16.96 and Alexa Kreiner took 83rd with a time of 23:43.62. For Bradford, Emma Lavey took 58th with a time of 22:31.29. For Tri-Village, Zilah Strayer took 113rd with a time of 25:29.34.

The Regional tournament will take place on Oct. 26 at Troy High School. In Division III, the top four boys teams and the top three girls teams will move on to states. The top 16 for the boys and the top 12 for the girls individually will also move on to states. In Division II, the top four boys and girls teams move on with the top 16 individually for each will also move on.
