Volleyball tournament action round up

DARKE COUNTY — Here are the stats and scores from the first round of volleyball playoff action on Oct. 19.

Division III: 5. Greenville 3 vs 14. Tecumseh 0

The Lady Wave won 25-22, 25-22 and 25-16 over Tecumseh at Fairborn High School. Senior Brooke Schmidt had 18 kills in the game and three aces. Junior Kindyl Peltz had 25 assists in the match. The Green Wave will have played Tippecanoe in the next round on Oct. 22 back at Fairborn.

Division V: 3. Versailles 3 vs 13. Northeastern 0

The Lady Tigers won 25-5, 25-10 and 25-14 to sweep Northeastern at Butler High School. The win marks their third straight win and their second straight sweep after ending the regular season with a 3-0 sweep over Tippecanoe. Versailles will play two seed Dayton Christian on Oct. 24 back at Butler at 7:45 p.m.

Division VI:

1. Arcanum 3 vs 13. Tri-County North 0

The Lady Trojans swept the Lady Panthers on their home court 25-11, 25-4 and 25-14. It is back to back sweeps for the Lady Trojans after sweeping Franklin Monroe to end the season. They will next play three seed Fort Recovery on Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. back at Arcanum. The Lady Trojans defeated Fort Recovery at home on Aug. 31 in a five set match.

6. Ansonia 3 vs 10. National Trail 0

The Lady Tigers swept the Lady Blazers at Arcanum 25-19, 25-15 and 25-7. It is back to back sweeps for Ansonia after sweeping Twin Valley South to end the regular season. They will take on two seed Anna on Oct. 23 at Arcanum at 7 p.m.

5. Franklin Monroe 1 vs 9. Houston 3

The Lady Jets fall in four sets to Houston, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-20 at Newton. Head coach Angie Filbrun said she is proud of how her team competed in a match that featured many close sets.

“We knew coming in it was going to be a battle. When we played them a couple of weeks ago, we won in five. Every single set was a battle. They brought their game and they kept us on our heels. Couldn’t get to it tonight. I’m proud of those girls for what they’ve done today and what they’ve given to our program,” Filbrun said.

Senior Presley Cox had 19 kills with senior Allie Muhlenkamp reaching 10 kills. Senior Addie Bauman had 31 assists. Sophomore Reagan Flora had four aces at the serving line. The Lady Jets finish the season with a 10-13 record and a 7-4 WOAC record.

4. Tri-Village 3 vs 11. Calvary Christian 0

The Lady Patriots swept the Lady Spartans at Newton, 25-12, 25-17 and 25-15. Head coach Taylor Rawlings said she is proud of her team for finding that extra gear to stop any sort of run by Calvary Christian and finish out each set.

“I’m proud of them for finding that go to finish strong. Once you’re done, you’re done. It’s tournament time. I’m glad we were able to find that grit, that effort to finish strong,” Rawlings said.

The Lady Patriots will take on Houston on Oct. 24 at 5:30 p.m. Tri-Village swept Houston on Aug. 31 at home.

Division VII:

16. Bradford 0 vs 2. Covington 3

The Lady Railroaders had their season end against Covington at Newton, 25-7, 25-16 and 25-4. The team fought through some injuries that occurred during warmups, but couldn’t carry the momentum they created after a close second set. Head coach Jamie Hocker said this was a mental reset year for the program and they were able to come out each game ready to play volleyball.

“For us to come out there and just be able to play together as a family, that’s all that mattered to me this year. We did get 100% better. The wins didn’t fall the way we wanted to. But, we got what we wanted out of this season,” Hocker said.

Bradford finished with a record of 4-19 with a 2-9 WOAC record.

7. Mississinawa Valley 0 vs 8. Newton 3

The Lady Blackhawks were swept by Newton at Trotwood High School, 25-14, 25-15 and 25-22. Mississinawa Valley did have two wins over Newton during the regular season. The Lady Blackhawks end the season with a 16-7 record and a 9-2 WOAC record.
