GREENVILLE — After installing the latest mural just a little over a week ago, Main Street Greenville announced Mother Nature had other plans for the artwork created by Greenville native and current Rhode Island resident Don Mong.

Although there are communities from Florida to Ohio that were hit by devastating flooding, storm surge and high winds, Darke County experience minor damage compared to many of those communities. Power outages were reported and a few trees suffered damage.

Another victim of Helene was Mong’s mural on the Brightspeed building in downtown Greenville. The Main Street Greenville Mural Committee installed the artwork on Friday, Sept. 20 with a plan to seal the artwork. Although Greenville was experiencing drought conditions and had gone several weeks without rain, it was rain that kept the committee from getting the mural sealed before the remnants of Hurrican Helene hit the community.

Because moisture got between the vinyl and the wall, portions of the artwork came off.

Main Street Greenville released a statement on Facebook, “We will be reinstalling and sealing it in the very near future when the weather is more cooperative. Thank you for everyone’s understanding and support of the beautiful artwork that has been installed so far downtown.”
