Local resident Betty Murphy and her sister-in-law (former resident), Sara Gray, will celebrate special birthdays on October 8th. Betty will turn 99 years old, and Sara will turn 96 years old on their birthdays this year. The family has asked if you know them, to please consider sending them a birthday card as they celebrate a milestone birthday! Betty’s address is 949 Arcanum Ithaca Rd., Arcanum, OH 45304 and Sara’s address is 5080 Long Meadow Drive, Franklin, OH 45005. Happy Birthday Betty and Sara!

The Arcanum Public Library located at 101 W. North Street welcomes you to join them in October! Coming the first week of October to the Arcanum Public Library…Adult Crafting – Let’s Get Crazy With Buttons on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m. Call the library at 937-692-8484 to add your name to the list or sign up at the front desk. Space is limited for this fun event.

Also, on display this month at the APL is a collection of weathervanes and lightning rods that you might be interested in checking out. Each month, the library has special displays for patrons; be sure to check it out.

Coming to APL is a paranormal experience! This event, Paranormal Symposium, is for patrons eighteen and over. Come see what paranormal investigators might use in their business and hear some stories of places the Midnight Shadows Paranormal Society of Tipp City has been to. The program is on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. Please call the library at 937-692-8484 to add your name to the list or sign up at the front desk. Space is limited for this fascinating peek into paranormal investigating!

Healthy Cooking classes will be held at the APL for 10 weeks on Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m. Classes began on Sept. 12 and run to Nov. 14; you can still attend. There will be a variety of topics, and food will be prepared and tasted at each class. Insta-pot and Air fryer recipes will also be featured. Call the library at 937-692-8484 or drop in to add your name to the list to ensure they have adequate supplies for all participants. Patrons can sign up for individual classes, or for multiple classes.

Grab your friends, flannels, and fuzzy socks because fall is here! Nothing will get you more prepared for fall than visiting the Bear’s Mill Fall Open House on Saturday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct. 13 from 11-5. You will be able to stroll through the property soaking in all the colors, sounds, and smells of autumn in Ohio. The Bears Mill Annual Fall Open House is always a crowd pleaser! There will also be special music on Saturday provided by Danny Schneible followed by Adam Stall. Sunday’s live music will start with Bill Westfall and Cindy Slick and end with Noah Back. Bear’s Mill is located just eight miles north of Arcanum at 6450 Arcanum-Bears Mill Road.

Save the Date! Trick or Treat in the Village of Arcanum will be Sunday, Oct. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. The Ham ‘n Bean Dinner and Halloween Parade will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31. The Bean Supper will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Veteran’s Park (123 George Street) and the Halloween Parade will begin at 6 p.m. at the Field House and finish at Veteran’s Park. The annual costume contest will conclude the parade at Veteran’s Park.

Congrats to the Arcanum High School Band on another excellent band contest at Versailles! They earned a First Place Percussion, First Place Music, First Place Class C, and Grand Champion out of class B and C. Way to go Trojan Band!

Come out and join us at The Arcanum Opera House on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. when Whimsical Works and the Arcanum Preservation Society will host The First Annual HALLOWEEN EXTRAVAGANZA! They will be painting while watching “HOCUS POCUS” for entertainment, enjoying lots of treats and socializing with our fellow painters. Painters 10+ years old are welcome. Costumes are encourage of any theme but not required. Winifred, Mary and Sara Sanderson will be there to enjoy all the fun! They will be doing things a little different for this one gang! Whimsical Works will provide paint kits with the image of your choice pre-traced on a 16×20 canvas. But most importantly, $10 of every ticket will go to the preservation of the beautiful Opera House in the Arcanum Community! If you have never been inside, this is your chance to come see this magnificent historic building. It is absolutely beautiful to behold and has so much potential for the community! No experience necessary. This is fun art, not fine art! Limited tickets are available, this is a pre-pay event. Registration closes October 15th. You can pay using the Whimsical Works’ payment link or contact the Arcanum Preservation Society who will be collecting payments in person also. Organizers hope to see you for this fun benefit!
