GREENVILLE — The Darke County Commissioners proclaimed the month of October as National Arts and Humanities Month.

Andrea Jordan, executive director of the Darke County Center for the Arts, shared this is the perfect week for this proclamation. She explained Take3 is opening their Artists Series this week and the group visited all of the high schools in the county and one of the members worked with the Greenville High School orchestra.

The proclamation recognizes the 110,000 nonprofit arts organizations in the nation, as well as the more than 4,500 local arts agencies, National Endowment for the Humanities, arts and humanities councils in each of the 50 states and the six U.S. jurisdictions.

Jordan agrees with the proclamation that states the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of every American. They also play a unique role in the lives of families, communities and the country.

The arts and culture industry strengthens the economy by generating $151.7 billion in total economic activity annually, $29 billion in government revenue and supports the full-time equivalent of five million jobs.

The proclamation states, “The arts and humanities are a vital part of the nation’s economy, and the creative economy drives tourism, commerce, supports American workers, makes up 4.3 percent of the annual GDP and is a $1.1 trillion industry.”

The commissioners encourage citizens to celebrate and promote the arts and culture in Darke County. The proclamation was signed by Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs and Larry Holmes.
