NEW MADISON — Tri-Village senior Reagan Brewer will be playing collegiate golf at Indiana University East Campus next fall. Brewer celebrated her announcement on Oct. 14 at the school.

Brewer said IU East academically and athletically was the best fit for her.

“I think that IU East is a great fit for me. They have many opportunities for great experiences. Their golf team is competitive and I’m a competitive person,” Brewer said.

Brewer was back to back WOAC Girls Golfer of the Year and made it to the District Tournament in back to back years.

Tri-Village girls golf head coach Lee Morris said Brewer is a fantastic teammate along with being a great golfer. He looks forward to see how she progress through her collegiate career.

“She’s been blessed with some really nice talents. She can hit some shots that not a whole lot of other kids at this age can hit. It’s going to be interesting to see how she progresses. I know this is a choice she is very comfortable with. I’m happy for her and happy for her family,” Morris said.

Her leadership showed during her senior year. Morris said Brewer was able to recruit a few kids at the school to play for the team so they could have a full team this season. He also said Brewer has telling other kids at other schools about her IU East experience.

IU East girls golf head coach Billy Mullin said it is great to have a player this close to the school and talented coming to the university. Mullin and Brewer talked about her leadership during the summer and was happy to see how she took on that challenge.

“We’re getting the total package with her. She’s an excellent student, she’s a very good golfer and by all accounts a very good teammate. I was proud of the leadership she gave to her high school team. Her and I talked about that last summer, how important it was for her to be a good leader to those girls. I’m proud of how she handled that,” Mullin said.

Brewer said her goal to have an average score in the mid 30s after finishing her high school career with a high 30s score. That is her next goal after already achieving her goal of going to college and playing golf at the next level.

“It was always my goal my freshman year and it’s been a goal in our family. It’s been my goal to go to college. Billy reached out to me and I for sure knew that it was IU East when I talked with him,” Brewer said.

While at IU East, Brewer plans to major in education and become an elementary school teacher.
