GREENVILLE — Greenville High School senior band member Austin Shaltry has been selected for membership in the 2025 Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) All State Band. Members of this very select ensemble are chosen from stringent performance auditions that were held last May. A panel of professional musicians and educators from across the state made the final membership selection for this band. The Ohio All State Band is considered the highest honors band in which a high school musician can be selected to participate.

Shaltry has been an outstanding member of the Greenville band since the fifth grade, at which time he started playing the alto saxophone. Over the past few years, Shaltry has also played the tenor and baritone saxophones. He has most recently been focusing on the baritone saxophone by taking private lessons on the instrument from Dennis Wein, a local retired band director.

In addition to being selected for this special honors band, Shaltry performed a Class A Solo this past spring on the bari sax at District Solo & Ensemble and received a Superior rating for his performance. He is currently the senior field commander for the Greenville Marching Band (Dacoda Kaczmarek, director) and has also been a member of the Jazz Scene, as well as participated in various saxophone ensembles for solo ensemble.

This OMEA State Honors Band will perform on Feb. 9, 2025 as part of the OMEA Professional Conference to be held at the Cleveland Convention Center. The concert is admission free and open to the public for those able to make the four-plus hour drive to Cleveland.

Shaltry is the son of Ben Shaltry and Savannah Shaltry, of Greenville.
